The Hidden Shelf is a solo project of Minji, a Greater Philadelphia Area-based singer/songwriter. With a background in piano since of young age, she taught herself guitar when she was 14 as she naturally resorted to music as a medium of comfort. After years of self-experimentation with songwriting, she began sharing some of her original songs online in 2017 under her own name.
The artist gradually found herself a surprise audience as she did not share her music with most of her close friends. Hoping to maintain the natural secrecy in her work, she resorted to adopting the moniker, The Hidden Shelf, as an alternate musical outlet. She still chooses to not voluntarily tell her connections about her music, but if they do manage to find them, she hopes “for the experience to feel like they’ve found, at the least, an okay book or an artwork or what have you from a ‘hidden shelf’ in a corner.”
