Hiperson - Four Seasons EP
Hiperson is a five-piece rock band from Chengdu, China, formed in 2012. They have released two full albums, No Need for Another History (2015), She Came Back from the Square (2018) on Maybe Mars one EP 'Four Seasons' coming out on Damnably in 2019. They toured 28 cities in China and 16 European cities (2016).
Expect a sense of the poetic narrative of contemporary literature mixed with the musical structure of hard-core punk and melodies of Chinese folk music.
Unlike previous generations of Chinese musicians, these twenty-somethings reject the shackles of recent history, harkening back to the essential, sensitive, poetic golden age of rock’n’roll.
Their temperament of refreshing simplicity has led Hiperson on a path of rapid achievement. Frontwoman Chen Sijiang’s unique voice, brilliant and gorgeous as it is, does not draw the audience’s full attention away from Hiperson’s compelling bass-lines or the complex, precise rhythmic interplay between drums and guitar.
About the songs
These songs were poems, the earliest written eight years ago, and became songs in 2016. Hiperson assume they will go back to subways, streets and different living rooms. They will travel back to noises, just like a thread goes back to a thread pile.
Strawberries can be read as about the simulacra of strawberry, which is luring while distant from actual one. Summer Air is about the thickness which summer brings to things. Waif’s Song is imagined on the street sung by a waif, written as a poem originally then reverted to song. Liangshan describes natural and artificial things once in the winter of Liangshan district, China. There’s a relation to four seasons in these four songs, especially when the hue changes as one song succeeds another.
The band play SXSW2020 plan European tours in 2020.
