Julian "Cannonball" Adderley was one of the greatest saxophonists in the later half of the 20th century. With his crystal-clear sound and his ethereal way of playing, Cannonball became immediately "The New Bird" after Charlie Parker died.
Julian and his brother Nat became the cornerstones of hard bop, and pioneers of soul jazz, although Cannonball could also entertain and became famous for his introductions.
Recorded at the rise of the 60s, these live tapes were the epicenter of a revolution, an avant-garde trend that heralded modern groove. They allow listeners to hear The Cannonball Adderley Quintet full of joy at the peak of their musicality, and the artists’ rapport with their audience, gives these performances an additional soul and sensibility.
